I had the great pleasure and honor of heading the Software Construction (SWC) Research Group at RWTH Aachen University from 1998 to 2026.
Before that, I worked at the Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich and at the ABB Research Center in Heidelberg. Those years were extremely important for my understanding of software engineering, and I am grateful to these companies for allowing me to gain such diverse experience.
At the SWC, we always worked on and conducted research into practical, real-world software engineering problems (in the sense of “use-inspired basic research”). Many companies supported us in this effort through research collaborations, some of which lasted for many years. My thanks go out to all of them!
Above all, however, my deepest thanks go to everyone on my team with whom I had the privilege of working at the SWC. It was always a pleasure!
